Welcome to "The Olde Edwardian" by Daniel D'Agostino! This is a site for old students from St. Edward's College to be able to see memories of school life and even get together in a discussion at the forum. Some useful resources are also available, and all pages in the site are printer-friendly in case you want a hard copy of something.
Be sure to read the Disclaimer, as there are rules you need to follow (such as not copying material, etc).
If you are interested in learning more about me, please visit my personal website.
Anthony posted a story of the French Exchange 2002 (with more to come) and also submitted a photo of the last day of school (the one back in 2003). Check them out!
I've added a Chatterbox script. It's like a little chat... you can drop messages without them being categorised by topic like a forum does.
The news of the year is definitely that as of today, the forum is once again functional! About a whole year of topics were lost when my site went down with my old host, and I've had to lock the earlier surviving topics because they're a different format and I don't think they're very compatible with the new script... besides, there's no point in resurrecting 2-year-old topics. I think most people gave up on this site a long time ago, so please spread the word that the forum is back.
Also, yesterday was the first anniversary of Malta's entry into the EU. My story of the EU Membership Celebrations 2004 is a good memory of last year, even though all the related links except one are dead.
I also fixed smilies in the guestbook.
This site has been collecting too much dust and accumulating cobwebs. It's been almost a year since the last update, and this site is already 2 years old. Well, I've been busy, like everyone else.
I've done a little maintenance to the site, so you won't see errors at the bottom of the page any more and the links in the Welcome section of the main page will now work. I also removed the Notes section from the navigation... there were no notes.
There's just one thing that still won't work yet - the forum. I need to add a new forum and this will take a little tweaking that takes more time that I am willing to allow during this time of exams. By summer it'll be up again, I hope.
One last thing... I won't really be updating this site any more except for a few tweaks. My time at Sixth Form is over, as is my Edwardian experience. I have already lost track of school events and will no longer post updates about them. Nor will I add any more content, except in some very special occasions (perhaps a reunion or something). This site will just stand as a memory of the old days, and, assuming people actually use it, the forum will be the only thing still running.
The A-Levels are here... good luck!
A Live-In is being organised for Year 12, and it will be held the week when we start half-days, i.e. 31st May to 4th June. The price is Lm15, and applications must be handed in by next Thursday, 20th May 2004.
In other news, I have added another picture of Jean-Paul Buttigieg among the students' photos.
Last Thursday, 6th May, the Sixth Form joined the Senior School in an assembly in which monitors and prefects were appointed and given their ties. The ICT Department has prepared a slideshow documenting the event. This morning, in a Sixth Form assembly, two further prefects were appointed (Ingrid and myself).
Malta is finally officially a member of the European Union! Many of us were in Valletta yesterday to celebrate. I was there, and I've written an article about it.
Apart from that, I've also added the story of The Fallen Tree.
The Quotes page has also been divided into smaller pages, and a new Sixth Form Teachers' Quotes page has been added. You'll also find a new quote of my own in the Friends' Quotes page.
There's a new photo for Jean-Paul Buttigieg, which replaces the old ones.
Today is the first birthday of "The Olde Edwardian"! The site was started on 23rd March 2003, exactly one year ago.
Today Sixth Formers also got their results, along with the Trinity Term 2004 Calendar (added today to the site) among other stuff.
The website of Milestones, our Young Enterprise company, has recently been launched. There you'll find information about the company and its products.
Today the Sponsored Walk 2004 was held, and I have written an article about it for the Stories section.
James Vernon's website, Carrot, has finally been updated. Check out the new Halloween section; it's great!
Check out the updated Quotes page because three of Sergei and two of Janet have been added.
As you can see, the site has been redesigned. Most of it has changed.
The site now has a bluish layout, as was decided by a public poll on the forum. If you don't like it, there are a number of other themes you can choose.
The forum has for now kept the old layout. As soon as I upgrade it as necessary, it will take the same layout as the new site.
You will notice some missing sections in the site, particularly the notes sections as well as a couple of stories. They will be back soon when I make the necessary changes to bring them back.
The "Memories" section of the site has now been divided into three parts: photos, stories and humour. Whatever was in the old "Fun" section has been moved in the Humour and Stories sections, and some of the photos have been moved to the Stories section as well because they make more sense there.
The guestbook has also been updated. There is a new signing interface showing what text formatting and smilies you can use, and the existing entries are dynamically organised into pages for every 10 entries.
The main page has been greatly improved. There is now a short introductory ("Welcome") section explaining the site's purpose and pointing out important links. The news is organised in an XML file, to which a PHP script is assigned which shows the latest 3 news updates, but you can see the other news by a form at the bottom of the page which allows you to see news organised by year, month or date.
Finally, the part at the bottom of every page has also been altered. The copyright symbol links to my Disclaimer, and my name links to my personal site, so there is no need for such links in the navigation any longer.
Most of us have already finished exams by today, but those who did not will finish tomorrow, with either Philosophy or Economics at Intermediate level (for the lower Sixth Formers in the MATSEC Course).
Today Sixth Form started exams, the lower Sixth in the MATSEC Course having done Systems of Knowledge and English. Tomorrow is a public holiday, but the exams of A-level subjects will be held on Wednesday and Friday.
It's been a while since the last update, and quite a few things happened since then.
A couple of weeks ago, the good Mr. Saliba had to be taken to hospital after having suffered some form of attack, supposedly a stroke. I'm glad he seems much better now - I saw him at school last Friday on Parents' Day. I hope he'll be back with us soon enough.
James Sciberras, one of our old friends who has been studying in England this scholastic year and who came to visit in October (see the last few updates) is back in Malta again. He was back around Friday and is staying till 6th January, if I'm not mistaken.
Last Thursday and Friday were Parents' Day.
This is the last week of this term. School finishes at 1pm on Friday since it's the last day of term. The Advent Term is nearly over, and the Lent Term approaches - if you need a calendar for that term, remember I have the Lent Term 2004 calendar hosted on this site.
Last but not least, some new photos will be added with one of the next updates.
There have been quite a few things going on this week, especially as far as the Sixth Form is concerned. On Tuesday, an informal meeting between parents (some accompanied by students) and teachers took place in the Sixth Form common room. Yesterday (Wednesday), most of the students participating in Young Enterprise attended an introductory meeting at Radisson.
For those that remember James Sciberras (who's been at St. Edward's as far as I can remember but left for Ampleforth (England) in August) is back in Malta and came to St. Edward's to say hi to friends and teachers just yesterday.
There has been several bad news yesterday.
Mrs Lillianne Hadley Coates, the Head of Sixth Form and the teacher of Pure Maths at Intermediate Level, announced yesterday that she is leaving our Sixth Form. The reasons why her job has been terminated will not be disclosed by the Headmaster or the Board of Governors, but part of it appears to be insufficient funds to keep a Head of Sixth Form. That is not the entire reason, however, and there are other reasons to it that will not be disclosed to us. This news has shocked the Sixth Form, such that the entire Sixth Form was peacefully protesting and discussing the matter with the Headmaster. I would personally like to thank her for all she has done for the Sixth Form, and wish her luck for her future.
More bad news is the fact that Mr. Max Carabez, who teaches Physics in Sixth Form and the Senior School, had a bad accident this week and ended up in hospital, lucky to be still alive. The good side of it is that he was back today, and though he is still in pain from the crash, he's much better now.
As far as school events are concerned, Monday was St. Edward's Day, and a Mass took place to celebrate it (being the school's feast day).
The PTA Fair took place today.
I've added a new feature to the school calendar - the current day is highlighted on the calendar. So if you check the Advent 2003 calendar, you'll see 12th October highlighted. This script is automated and dynamic, so each new day will be highlighted automatically without me needing to edit anything.
Note that since the site's server is located in the USA with a time difference of -9 hours, the present day will only be highlighted after the first 9 hours of the day, so for example if you looked at it this morning before 9am, you'd see 11th October highlighted.
September 2003 news has finally been archived.
We have been given a paper with some changes to the calendar, so the following changes have been made to the school calendar on "The Olde Edwardian":
Also, note that Friday is the closing date for applications for Young Enterprise. If you're interested in taking part, get an application form from Mrs. Cali, fill it in and give it to her with a Lm5 registration fee.
The Events page has been updated, and the only upcoming event now is Young Enterprise.
The Notes section has been redesigned. You won't notice a difference in the Economics Notes, for example, but behind the scene, the Notes section works in a totally different way.
While I'm at it, I added a section for Reference and put 3 Maths resources including dynamic times table and power table scripts as well as my Number Analyser, a program that gives information about numbers you choose.
Here we go; a new school year has begun. Year 12s (new Sixth Formers) started school today while the rest of the school began on Monday.
Year 12 students started off with an introduction and welcome to the Sixth Form at the Audiovisual room, followed by a short orientation tour, after which we had lessons (and homework, I might add). After big break, we were introduced to Young Enterprise and given information about activities to be done in Games in future.
By the way, this is the first newspost with the new news layout. It has been changed like this to permit other people to post news as well. Old news will keep its old layout. For now, I am not going to archive September 2003 news so that anyone who missed the last few newsposts can still benefit from them until needed.
I'm not sure myself whether this new news layout is an improvement or a deterioration. If you feel like giving your opinion, I'd be grateful if you'd post it at my forum.
I went to school to talk to the Sixth Form teachers about the books today, so I learned more about the Old Edwardians staying at St. Edward's Sixth Form and about the Sixth Form teachers. This information is currently at my forum (meaning that you can discuss it), but I might add it to the Resources page once I get complete information.
A page for resources has been added today. It currently contains the latest school calendars, but I might also add other useful information including timetables (by subject and class) for anyone who misplaces his timetable, and such stuff.
Note also that the official St. Edward's College website has recently been updated, and the calendar there has been updated. That calendar is in list format (i.e. only dates with particular events are listed), unlike the calendar on "The Olde Edwardian" which is in calendar format.
The news page is also going to be redesigned by next month (beginning of October). I've made a newsposter so that I can allow other people to post news when necessary, and so the news page is going to be redesigned accordingly.
There's a new quote from Ivan - you'll notice it because it's highlighted. Heh heh...
I heard that the results of the SEC resits have arrived. I hope those that had any resits got on well.
On another note, I'll be adding the latest school calendar(s) to the site one of these days for easy reference.
I've updated the Events page because it was getting a little obsolete. There, you'll find more information about current events including John and Nicky's party on Friday.
Yesterday I (and probably the rest who are going to St. Edward's) received a letter from school, requesting a confirmation that I will be taking up the place I applied for in 6th Form. Obviously, you people don't forget to submit it, and hand in any other stuff (passport-size photos, for example) which you might have forgotten to give in when you applied.
On another note, John Debono and Nicky Formosa are having a party at Frenchies next Friday and everyone's invited to attend. The tickets cost Lm2 from them or Lm2.50 at the door, and the party goes on till 12:30am.
Those who applied for 6th Form at St. Edward's College (and most probably those who applied for other schools, as well) were given an application form for the stipend. Those that didn't apply for the stipend yet should go and apply for the stipend at Junior College as soon as possible. Those that did apply have appointments to get their Smart Cards next week, so there may be a deadline. Try and apply on Monday or Tuesday if you haven't already.
There was an amazing storm this morning. It rained for about 6 hours non-stop with lightning literally every 3 seconds. The rain woke me up at 5am last night, so I slept for just 4 hours and stayed watching the rain and hearing the thunder since it was impossible to sleep with lightning and thunder every 3 seconds.
If I'm not mistaken, today's the closing date for applications at St. Edward's College Sixth Form. I could be wrong, but that's what I was told.
School is just over 2 weeks away! St. Edward's Sixth Form starts on Thursday 2nd October.
People who intend to apply for Sixth Form at the old school (St. Edward's College) should hurry up because the deadline is around 15th September. You'll need 2 passport-size photos and copies of your birth certificate, last school report, school leaving certificate, exam results and ID card. You should have received an application form for St. Edward's Sixth Form with the last envelope you received from school (aside from the IGCSE results), so don't forget to fill it in and take it with you.
August 2003 news has been archived.
Today another friend went to study abroad - Roderick Bartolo had won a scholarship in Italy, and today he went there. The scholarship is for 2 years, so he'll be back after they expire (and possible even before on holiday). Sad, he's the 6th friend to leave us in one week.
James Sciberras' party last Friday was a great success; there were about 100 people and Daniel Bonnici was there too.
This morning, James Sciberras, Nikol Sammut, Toby Briffa, Benji Borg and Richard Pisani went to Ampleforth (England) where they will be attending 6th Form. Roderick Bartolo will be leaving us as well next week. All of us should remain in touch through the forum.
Speaking of the forum, it has been updated. There are many new features and security additions.
Tomorrow is the resit of the Maltese O-level, and most of the 82% of us that failed it will be sitting for it. Good luck!
James Sciberras is having a Birthday & Leaving party tonight at Frenchies, from 9pm to 2'ish. Entrance is free and there will be a DJ.
James Sciberras is one of about 6 people that will be leaving us next week to study abroad. I hope we can all remain in contact through this site.
For those who want to apply at St. Aloysius' College or De La Salle College, hurry up! The deadline is tomorrow at noon. You need photocopies of your results, school leaving certificate and ID card.
The IGCSE results have arrived!
Also, Daniel Bonnici is in Malta. He'll be staying for a couple of weeks, and will be going out frequently... see this forum topic for more details.
And finally, I've opened a little WAP site for The Olde Edwardian. This means that if you have a mobile phone with WAP and/or GPRS enabled, you can view the latest news from The Olde Edwardian on your mobile phone. To view the WAP site, go to http://dino.shiftedphase.com/edward/edwap.wml from your mobile phone. The news on the WAP site is brief so that it's compatible with mobile phones, and only the latest news will be there.
Daniel Bonnici has posted in a forum topic that he will be coming to Malta on Tuesday. Don't miss this chance to see an old friend in first person!
I found a couple of adverts in the newspapers about 6th form applications for Junior College, St. Aloysius' College and De La Salle College.
For Junior College, if your surname starts with A to C, apply on Wednesday 20th August 2003. Those with a surname starting with D to M need to apply on Thursday 21st August 2003, and those with surnames starting with N to Z are invited to apply on Friday 22nd August 2003. Applications should be submitted in the morning between 8:30am and noon. You will need the original certificates/result slips and copies of same, a photocopy of your ID card, and 2 passport-size photos.
People expecting to apply for De La Salle or St. Aloysius' need to apply any day between 25th August and 30th August, from 8:30am to noon (Monday to Saturday) or 4:30pm to 6:30pm (Monday to Friday). The advert doesn't say the requirements, but instead says that they are available in the respective schools.
Today's my 16th birthday... but I'm making this update to bring something more important to your attention.
There's a new virus around. From what I've heard, it spreads not when you open an email, but just when you're online. It shuts down your system within 60 seconds every time you start it. At least 3 of our friends got it, and I'm sure many others did too. It's called the win32 blaster worm. The only way to keep it out is probably to use a firewall. If you get this virus, download the fix and run it.
I think we should be getting the IGCSE results next week.
The IGCSE results should be coming soon, hopefully sometime around mid-August. When I asked Mr. Wilson back in the days when we were still doing the exams, he said that the results would come in mid-August. I phoned school last week and the secretary said that the results would come sometime between the second and third week of August. Some websites of foreign schools, as you can see in this particular search query, indicate that the results should be published on Thursday 21st August 2003, though I have no idea if it's the same for us. Either way, we should be having the results any time within the next 2 weeks.
I've archived the July 2003 news in case you want to go back and read it.
I just came back last night from abroad. We visited Bonn (Germany), Luxembourg City (Luxembourg), Warner Bros. Movie World Theme Park (Germany), Cologne (Germany), Utrecht (Holland), Antwerp (Belgium), Brussels (Belgium), Amsterdam (Holland), Rotterdam (Holland), Delft (Holland), Madurodam (Holland), Scheveningen (Holland) and The Hague (Holland).
It was really great. We had an excellent group with interesting people, nice girls and people with a good sense of humour. We visited many places together, and had a great time. We did come across drug addicts and such in Holland though (because 'soft' drugs are legal there) and I can assure you that smoking Canabis is not cool. One person was sniffing his lungs out on it while covering his mouth with both hands (looked like suffocating himself), and another was arguing with himself while running in the streets. I really started worrying for the people in our group at such sights, especially when a girl and her mother lost our group while buying something from a shop (2 women alone among drug addicts isn't exactly very safe). All went well though.
This website has also been updated now - there's a single photo of Beppe Sammut at the gallery.
The SEC results have arrived by post. From those I asked, it seems we went well on the whole, though nobody seems to have got better than 4 in Maltese. The IGCSE results will arrive in mid-August, so we still have to wait for those.
On another note, I'm going abroad tomorrow, so "The Olde Edwardian" won't be updated again before the 25th.
SEC results have sent by SMS to those that subscribed for them. The results will be received by post within one or two days.
My links page has been updated with links to two other new websites by people in our school group:
I got many more photos from Neil Camilleri and James Vernon. Since I now have so many photos, I had to spend a day rearranging the gallery. Now all the pictures should load much faster, and you will find lots of new photos:
There are a few other minor changes, such as:
James Vernon has made some cool little pictures that somewhat resemble us - check them out!
Holy heck, just now that I'm writing this update, there has been an earthquake! It was not very strong but heck, experiencing it all of a sudden out of nothing was a little... scary. The earthquake took place at 5:10pm.
Thanks to Neil Camilleri, you can see photos of the social at my gallery - there are 10 photos so far but more may be coming.
Ivor's website has also added its own share of social photos, including some of Neil's as well as others.
The social took place yesterday at Gianpula, starting at 9pm and finishing at 2am this morning. Students, teachers, girls and old Edwardians got together to celebrate our last time together. If you want, you can discuss the social at the Edwardian forum.
If any of you have photos of yourself you'd like to add to the gallery, you can still send them to me and I'll add them on.
Now that (nearly) our entire year group had its last time together, it's important that we keep in touch with the forum, which was made on purpose to enable us to discuss together even when we are at different schools. Please feel free to discuss anything and reply to the existing topics.
If you intend to book for summer camps (see Events page for details), please note that tomorrow is the closing date for applications. Hurry up if you still want to apply.
If you want to read the June 2003 news, it has been archived and you can find it on its own page.
The School Leaving Ceremony took place on Wednesday 25th June, just 2 days ago. We received our School Leaving Certificates along with our school photos, and after the mass we helped ourselves to drinks at the front garden.
This evening at 8:30pm there's the End of Year Disco at the school arena. The Events page has more details if you are interested.
This week there are two events coming up:
For more information, just check the Events page where there is all the information you need.
I received a scanned version of the brochure with details about the Summer Camp from Mr. Sammut, and you can see it at the Events page. The details are all there.
I've also changed a couple of things with the gallery, and it should load faster now.
Yesterday we received an envelope from school with details about the School Leaving Ceremony, Summer Camp, and Sixth Form at St. Edward's College. There are application forms for the Summer Camp and St. Edward's College Sixth Form among the papers we received, and lots of details.
The School Leaving Ceremony is today week (25th June) in the school chapel. The letter says it's at 7:30pm.
The gallery has been updated - the teachers' photos page now has the photo of Mr. Ferrante.
School exams started yesterday - and we've already finished!
Even the latest of SEC orals are over now, having been done between 9th and 11th June. Now, everyone has finished everything and it's really all over.
At this point, younger people in our school will start exams next week, and our School Leaving Ceremony is just 11 days away. If you need details about it, check the events page.
Today, exams are officially over. The last SEC exam was Art (Papers 1 and 2 on 30th-31st May), and IGCSE exams finished today. IGCSE Accounts paper 1 (Multiple Choice) was on 2nd June, while today was the IGCSE Economics multiple choice, being paper 1 or 3 for core and extended respectively. Those who took SEC French or Art still have one to three orals left, though those will be over as well by next week.
The next event, at this point, is the School Leaving Ceremony on the 25th of June. Full details are on the Events page.
This time is not totally a time of joy though, because of the passing away of one of our friends' mother. I heard they got it in yesterday's newspaper. Rest in Peace.
In case you want to read the May 2003 news, it has been archived and you can read it on its own page.
I have acquired full details regarding most of the upcoming events. There are full details about the School Leaving Ceremony, End-of-Year Disco and 5th Form Social, with details of the Summer Camp coming by next week (though there are a couple of new details for that as well).
Apparently Matthew Sammut's website (a site belonging to an old 6th Former) has been updated as well.
Exams have thankfully slowed down now; yesterday there has been the SEC English oral and most of us (except those who have Art or had French this week) have finished their SEC exams with just one or two IGCSEs left.
This week has been full of exams, so much that I had 7 over the past 2 days and I even compared it to the eye of a storm. As a coincidence, it rained heavily today. I even took the time to write a poem about this 'storm'.
On Monday and Tuesday (yesterday and the day before), the SEC French and Economics exams took place. SEC orals have started as well, with Maltese yesterday and Italian today. Again, the Maltese oral raised much discussion about whether the questions were fair (we didn't know any of them), though the Italian oral seemed good and I happened to have had it with a very good teacher, who liked to joke.
IGCSE exams have been going full swing, and we've had a storm of them. Just yesterday, there was Computer Studies paper 1, French paper 4 (Continuous Writing) and Physics paper 3, while today the same examination board held the Italian and Economics exams, both paper 4.
New photos of Jean-Paul Buttigieg have been added.
I noticed that at least two other websites of people in our year have copied the live-in photos without any permission whatsoever. May I remind these 'webmasters' that the photos first appeared online on this website, and are used with the permission of Mr. Borg. Copying of those photos without permission is copyright theft, and I have a disclaimer against such theft of material. If you want to use those photos, ask Mr. Borg and get his permission rather than just copying them. I took the trouble of getting the permission, and I don't expect people to just liven their websites up using my efforts.
IGCSE History paper 4 as well as IGCSE French paper 2 took place yesterday, while SEC Religion (both papers) took place today. Some of us finished exams, while others still have a few left, and some of us (me included) have 4 exams on Tuesday.
The good old teachers just can't stop organising nice things for us, and have come up with something new. They gave us a leaflet in an IGCSE exam one or two weeks ago; it's about the summer camp. Here's what the leaflet said (word for word and mistake for mistake):
7th May 2003
Dear Parents,
We are in the process of organizing the SUMMER CAMPS and I would like to know how many of the Senior School boys are interested in participating.
The "Sleep-in House" will be used as a base and the programme will include camping out on a beach for a day or two.
Full details will be published shortly.
If you're interested, contact Mr. Borg or Mr. Sammut; I believe the full details should be available by next week. They need to know who and how many are coming, so please let them know. Mr. Borg's email can be found on the school website.
The events page has been updated accordingly.
Many of us have been shocked by the tragic news of Jake Cassar's death, especially those who were his close friends. Rest in peace.
Yet another old Edwardian has been tracked and found - this time it's Malek Fituri, who is no longer with us in Malta. In addition, I have given the site's address to Sasha Golovkin whom I'm seeing regularly at SEC examinations.
Again, there have been several exams since the last update. On the 15th was IGCSE French Paper 1 (Listening). On the 17th was the complete SEC English Language exam, and on the 19th were IGCSE Geography and Chemistry, both Paper 3. On the 20th and today, the IGCSE Maths exam took place, while the SEC English Literature exam took place between yesterday and today.
This week we've had several IGCSE exams at school. On Monday there was Accounts paper 2, Italian paper 2, Biology paper 3 and Geography papers 1 and 2. Yesterday, that is Tuesday, there was Physics papers 1 and 2. Today there was English papers 1 and 2, Accounts paper 3 and History paper 2. Tomorrow there's more to come with Biology paper 6 and French paper 1 (Listening). Although there are many exams, at least it's a break from the more tedious SEC exams.
The fun section of this site has been updated with some fun proverbs.
There have been several O-levels since the last update, including Italian and Maths SEC exams which raised much worrying and swearing, as well as several IGCSE science subject exams. Please feel free to discuss the O-levels on the forum and join us in our complaining.
Next week are several IGCSE exams, such that many of us will have a full week. Good luck!
The events page has been updated with more details about the upcoming events, thanks to Neil Camilleri.
Over the past few days there have been some other SEC O-levels, among which there was Maltese yesterday as well as Business Studies and Accounts on Wednesday and Friday. Next are IGCSE Physics Paper 6 on Tuesday morning, and SEC Italian Paper 1 in the afternoon, with paper 2 being the next day at the same time.
There was an article today in "The Circle" magazine about St. Edward's, written by Julian Manduca, who is now 45. By reading it you can appreciate even more how much our teachers cared for us during our time at St. Edward's, and how good life was on the whole, especially when you compare it with what is written in the article:
"The horrible thing was that there was no way out. Some of the bullying was far from a joke. Sneaking on someone for hurting you was a no-no. Yet if you went to a teacher to complain of being beaten up, no matter how badly, the teachers were encouraged to inform you that it was your own problem."
The article, in fact, is entitled "Seven Years of Wanting to Die"
. At school in those times, people slept in a dormitory, and the place was regarded a prison. Here is another extract from the article that mentions this:
"Throughout our years we were forced to wear shorts even in the coldest days of winter, often we had to take cold showers, we were forced to have our hair kept short and marched around like boy scouts in lines of threes. Violence was the rule of the day and we inevitably turned to violence to prove ourselves."
Aside from the article, if you want to read any of the old news, April 2003 news has been archived.
I've got lots of new photos, so I redesigned the gallery into subdivisions for different images. There are lots of new photos (most thanks to Mr. Borg), so check them out.
There is also a new listing of upcoming events so that you'll know the details for important events that are coming up (though the details are currently incomplete).
Today was the SEC Physics paper 2A O-level.
Today the first 'real' written, 2-hour-long SEC O-Level exam took place at Maria Assumpta Girls' Secondary School (Block C). It was Physics Paper 1. There was utter confusion before and after the exam, as the roads in front of the school were filled with traffic and the students crowded in front of the school. Feel free to discuss the exam at the forum. Tomorrow Paper 2 of the same subject will be held at the same place at the same time.
There is also a new section in the gallery containing teachers' photos.
From the old friends that have left us, this website has already brought back Tatenori Hamasaka and Daniel Bonnici back in touch with us. I must thank Neil who gave Daniel the address of this site. Everybody, please keep going to the forum to keep in touch with everyone else.
Just today I received a letter dated 11th April (about time too) from the headmaster. It's about the school photos:
...If you wish to buy his class and individual photos, you are kindly requested to send a cheque, payable to 'The Bursar - St Edward's College', of Lm2.50, by Monday 28 April 2003. Unpaid photos will be returned to Clayton Enterprises Limited on the following day.
Daniel will collect this photo, together with his School Leaving Certificate, on Wednesday 25 June 2003. Non-paying students will receive their School Leaving Certificate on the same occasion.
So if you want to have a memory of your class, hurry up and send that cheque! Hopefully someone can scan them for me as well and I'll add them to the gallery.
There's a new picture from Jan Rossi in the gallery.
Also, I've added a quote from Alexander Hill... anyone know what became of him?
The new photos in the gallery, including three of Tatenori and one of Henri to replace another of his older ones.
Check out the new quotes as well - there's one of Hugo Mamo and three of Alistair!
There is a new fun section - that of real jokes.
There's a new photo of Henri Debono in the gallery to replace one of the older ones.

I don't mean to get into politics, but my friends, we're citizens of Europe now!
Yesterday was the last day of school. It was a day full of shirt-signing and goodbyes... it was the end, for many people, of an 11-year sojourn at the college. I, for one, have wonderful memories of the college, its staff and the students.
It is very important, since we finished school, that we keep in touch. I have purposely made the Edwardian forums for online discussion. These are not chat rooms, so you do not have to stay waiting for people to go online. Just post a message and wait for people to answer... it's a bit like email, just it's public.
I also need more photos for the gallery, as memories of us. This applies to both teachers and students, so please send any photos you have to my alternate email address (dino@shiftedphase.com).
Another single photo has been added to the gallery - that of Kurt Borg Nicholas.
I've added a resources section with the calendar of the 2003 Trinity term. The date of the school leaving ceremony is there in bold should you need to check it.
The page about this site has been updated with better information about it.
Roderick Bartolo has a new website with some photos.
The fun animated pictures have been moved to the fun section because they seem better there. I've added another fun picture there.
Today we got the latest updated school calendar... the only thing that concerns us Year 11s is the School Leaving Ceremony on 25th June... don't forget about it!
There's a new photo on Jean-Paul's website if you are interested in seeing memories of our friends, especially now that tomorrow is the last day of school.
There are two new fun photos in the gallery!
There are some new photos, including three of the French exchange thanks to Paul Aquilina. Those who haven't, please send me your photos for the gallery!
Today was the SEC Italian Listening O-Level by the way.
The photo gallery has been set up with the first few photos contributed by friends.
Today registration for Microsoft software was held in Valletta... I went but didn't bother to queue since there was a queue on both sides for about 500 metres. If you are interested in details about the software, read this article from the Malta Independent which has lots of things to know about it. Despite the fact that I got permission from the editor yesterday to reproduce the article onto this website, I have decided not to.
I am currently collecting photos to add to this website as a memory of our time together at St. Edward's. If you have a good closeup photo of yourself, please send it to danixl@hotmail.com and it will be uploaded. Additional photos of yourself can also be sent and will be added too.
Bid welcome to the new Notes section, currently containing Economics Notes. There aren't many, but they are useful for those people with missing notes, and can be printed directly from the website since I set the website to exclude the navigation and take up the whole page when printing.
As some of you may already know, Microsoft has made a good offer to Maltese students. In case you don't know about it, three great software packages will be sold at really low prices. You get Microsoft Windows XP Professional for Lm3, Microsoft Visual Studio .net for Lm3, and Microsoft Office XP Professional for Lm4.50! So basically, you can get all three of these software packages for just Lm10.50! If you're interested, don't forget to register tomorrow in Republic Street, Valletta, opposite the law courts any time between 9:30am and 2pm. The eMalta Commission will check that the registrants are students, and then we will pay for and collect the software at a later date.
Thanks to Mr. Borg, I have added the photo of the year 11s who took part in the 2003 Sponsored Walk to the relevant page.
I have also added three new quotes - two of Ivan Philippov and one of Ms. Azzopardi.
News from an external website is that Ivor's Website has been updated with subject notes and other new things.
Finally, March 2003 news has been archived.
I've added some educational links to the links page.
O-levels start tomorrow for my year - French and Italian IGCSE orals will take place tomorrow.
Today was the 2003 Sponsored Walk, therefore I've written an article about the 2003 Sponsored Walk.
I have added a fun section with quotes and the story of the 2002 Sponsored Walk. Tomorrow there will be another Sponsored Walk, so hopefully there will be even more fun!
I've also sent a mass email to a number of college students and some teachers too today, to invite them to the forum. Once we finish school, we can meet at the forum to discuss our new schools and our new life.
"The Olde Edwardian" has started today, yet is not complete. More will be added to it as time goes by.
